Brazilian choro, a music genre originating in the late 1800s on the streets of Rio de Janeiro, is widely regarded as the grandfather of samba and bossa nova. Itβs a fusion of jazz, classical, and high energy African percussion. Known for its syncopated rhythms, fast tempo, and improvisational elements, choro captures a range of emotions from joy to melancholy, and everything in between, creating a dynamic and engaging listening experience.
Choro Collective, a collaboration of Sydney-based musicians, will be on hand playing traditional choro instruments like the bandolim, cavaquinho, 7-string guitar, flute, and pandeiro (a Brazilian tambourine), and will pay homage to the greatest choro composers such as Chiquinha Gonzaga, Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolim, Waldir Azevedo, and others!
